As bad as Google is it was worse a year or two ago when it abolished phrase searches and broke up a phrase into individual words destroying the search. Bing has currently revoked phrase searches so it is no longer possible to find a phrase from literature on Bing. Perhaps Microsoft (Bing) did this in an under the table deal with Alphabet (Google). duckduckgo.com, not really an alternative, is based on Google, so when Google downgrades their searches so does duckduckgo.com, and they have also returned to phrase searches. I wouldn't be surprised if duckduckgo.com was run by Google itself to spy on "private" searches. Is there any doubt that the founders of Google would do such a scanless thing? It's not like the Law is doing anything against illegal collusion in business. Phrase searches are important when searching for things, like phrases in literature. It would be so nice if "tech" companies actually competed with each other rather than illegally colluding to prevent newcomers into "their" web search field. Amazon also appears to be in a political partnership with Google, as a few years ago while searching for censorship on Amazon I could only get results on Bing, weak mis-leading results, but better than nothing. But Bing has now perhaps downgraded to appease it's under the table partners amazon and google.
