The next release in the 'Doctor Who Collection' Blu-Ray series has just been announced; Season 13. A veritable classic season of the show... one of the best, if not the best, season's of "Doctor Who" there is. The Blu-Ray release will have plenty of extras to keep us going during these dark times too... forget Disney+ or the iPlayer, let's get physical! https://www.doctorwho.tv/news-and-features/season-13-is-the-next-instalment-in-doctor-who-the-collection-blu-ray-range

I'm not sure I recall Tom Baker's Doctor doing too much in the way of insulting or demeaning his audience... YMMV of course. You can't take them with you but every shelf needs some sort of "Doctor Who" merch on it... even if the grandkids end up binning them!

You "might"? Is that your way of saying you made a mistake and got something wrong?! ;-) But yes, Jodie Whittaker was Series 13, Tom Baker was Season 13. It is confusing but the clue should have been that the "Doctor Who: The Collection" Blu-ray range is for the classic era of the show. Plus, I doubt there's ANYONE that would claim Series 13 is one of the best (if not the best) seasons of Doctor Who out there! All you had to do was click the link! It's a great set, with cool extras. If people didn't like SEASON 13 of the show then there's no hope for them! > Doctor Who is finished. The sex obsessed pervert destroyed it > all for everyone. "Doctor Who" will never die whilst the fans keep it alive... so while I am breathing I will collect the BBC Blu-ray's and listen to the Big Finish audios until the show returns to our TV screens... and if it turns out that I have outgrown the modern version of the show - whenever it does come back, I will just put a 3rd/4th Doctor Blu-ray into the machine and carry on watching my favourite episodes until the light goes dim and I know no more.

No actually, because Series 13 WAS a 13th Doctor series!!! Did it take you this long to realise that Aggy actually mixed up Season 13 with Series 13 though?! ;-) Of course, it is an easy enough mistake to make (clearly!) so we won't hold it against him. Every Doctor Who 'fan' should know that Season 13 was a Tom Baker season though, and if they didn't, all they had to do was click the link and read the article provided. Simples.

If only RTD had just gone with "2005 season", "2006 season", "2007 season" (etc.) life would have been so much simpler... but no, he just had to go and be a clever bastard didn't he? In hindsight, I think RTD tries too hard to be clever and just ends up making a mess of things... keeping it simple is clearly NOT his motto.

When is the BBC going to upgrade them to Blu-Ray? They won't upgrade your VHS tapes, but they have upgraded the stories, hence "The Collection" Blu-ray range... the new stuff they have added is usually quite good too, "Behind the Sofa" and the new interviews especially. (Tom Baker is looking very old in that bit in the trailer for the Blu-ray that I posted. It'll likely be the last word on those days from him!) It was a general observation though and not wholly aimed at you, as our resident village idiot is in my Bozo Bin and he buys nothing! > > It's virtue signalling in a way... Hey! RTD has nothing to do with the "Doctor Who: The Collection" Blu-ray range and he had nothing to do with any of those stories either, so that is a lame argument. Not being able to play Blu-rays is a good enough reason though. > > It's just self-importance, all for show... and nobody here > > actually cares. > > > > [* Blu-ray, BF audio, action figure etc.] > > If you don't care then why are you trying to line the BBC's > malicious pockets by getting people to buy the Blu-Rays? I am on a commission! A fan promoting "Doctor Who" here should be what this place is about, especially during the quiet periods when the show is off-air. I mean, this is a Doctor Who newsgroup after all, so people here should - in theory - be like minded and have some interest. The fact you don't is irrelevant. Plus, Season 13 is one of the best seasons of Doctor Who out there... really. If there's any Doctor Who classic era box set worth the fifty quid - this is it!

I figured I'd probably never own a VHS player again. VHS isn't a great format for permanence anyway. Tape distorts after enough viewings. A multi-tiered approach may be ideal. I don't need to think again. I read the article that I posted a link to here two days ago... did you? I know what the extras are, but they are just that, extras. The decision to include the 75 min 2024 edit of "Pyramids of Mars" was made for the completionists. It hasn't replaced the original broadcast version. There's an omnibus version of "Pyramid of Mars" also included in the set, and that doesn't replace the original four-episode broadcast version of the story either. That's what these Blu-ray sets do, they try to include as much as they can as bonus features. Yes, RTD is responsible for one of the bonus features, so "nothing" was not 100% correct... sue me! > > Blu-ray range and he had nothing to do with any of those > > stories either, so that is a lame argument. Not being able > > to play Blu-rays is a good enough reason though. > > Totally wrong. Have you read the Radio Time article on it? As I said, I am aware of what the extras on the Season 13 set are. I posted a link to the original article announcing the release remember? (Which clearly you didn't actually read or you would have known it wasn't Jodie's Series 13!) The original episodes from 1975 are the main feature of the "Season 13" set, obviously, as they are what constitute Season 13... and RTD had nothing to do with them. People wouldn't buy or not buy a Blu-ray set because of an extra thrown in on a bonus disc. Well, unless they were the sort of person that had a tiny mind! Fortunately for you, if you can't play Blu-ray discs you won't have to make that decision. > > Plus, Season 13 is one of the best seasons of Doctor Who out > > there... really. It > looks like I was right after all. <face palm> The "Tales of the Tardis: Pyramids of Mars" edit was broadcast on BBC Four and is on the BBC iPlayer, so of course it was going to be thrown in as an 'extra'. It's only an hour or so long and it is not the actual four-episode broadcast story. It is not a part of Season 13... it is just a bonus feature. Nobody is forcing an extra thrown in as a bonus down anyone's throats... > It is a good job I already have the story on VHS. You can't play Blu-ray discs anyway, so your moans are irrelevant. I do have the old BBC "Pyramids of Mars" DVD if you want it though? I won't need it anymore obviously. So I'll send it to you free of charge... that can be your back-up! Just say the word.

Physical copies of TV shows you like are always the way to go... they're yours. You can watch them whenever you want to, no subscription fee or internet required. > I regret giving up my VHS copies of Red Dwarf. I'll never be > able to see "Parallel Universe" properly again. Of course, you need to keep them... and something to play them on too... :-)

I figured I'd probably > never own a VHS player again. I haven't had a VHS player in years. (Decades?) I do still have a handful of the BBC Doctor Who VHS tapes in a box in the loft. I sold/traded/gave away the rest. Nobody wants VHS tapes anymore so what's left will stay left. > VHS isn't a great format for permanence anyway. Tape distorts > after enough viewings. A multi-tiered approach may be ideal. I've moved my main collecting on to the Blu-rays as I have a good Sony Blu-ray player and a decent-ish TV. How long they will last for though is anyone's guess... I'm hoping they outlive me! > Watch party for Genesis of the Daleks still going on, BTW, if > you're free. The football is on... Real Madrid v Dortmund. I could probably do "Genesis of the Daleks" scene by scene in my head anyway... I've seen it that many times. A classic! Hope ye are all enjoying it.
