Hi all! I live in a residential neighborhood in Toronto, and have been very pleased and surprised with the variety of birds that I've seen over the past summer. Yesterday, I had about 4 or 5 Juncos. First time since early spring. Along with them were some brown birds that looked something like sparrows. They seemed to be "hanging out" with the Juncos, They ate on the ground rather than on the feeders like all of the other millions of house sparrows. They had distinctive stripes on their head, a darker brown/black and a lighter beige-yellow color. I can't find an exact match in my bird guide - the closest I could come is either a white-crowned or sparrow or a dickissel. Can anyone help me out? Thanks, Melanie Leon Fisk wrote: > > So for this year we have had the following: > > White-crowned Sparrows (just this past week) > Red-breasted Nuthatch (around the first of Sept) > > The latter (RBN) was a pleasant suprise.
