I have the good fortune to be able to visit Panama for a few weeks. Do
any of you have suggestions, locations or contacts for birding which you
are willing to share? I would very much like to hire local guides or
connect with a birding club while there and am beginning to plan the
itinerary. Many thanks. Janet.

Contact the American Birding Association for books, checklists and general
info. Great group, they have a web site. Just do a search.

Go to the www.Yahoo.com search engine and look up:

ANCON - the environmental group - they have some tours,
http://www.sinfo.net/pnmetrop - Metropolitan Park is the best of you
are short on time
http://www.canopytower.com - well run business (or look up "canopy
tower" in yahoo)
Audubon Society Panama - they have a website and also are listed in the
phonebook.

And see if you can find a copy of the book, "Field Book of the Birds of the
Panama Canal Zone" by Bertha Sturgis. Not as many pictures as I'd like but
the descriptions are good.
