I am going on one year as a birder. I have tried squirrel guards, high-hung feeders, and safflower, but it seems they are even used to the safflower. Is there ANYTHING I can do to stop them? PLEASE HELP ME!!! -Dan

Also ask for their additional speaker for it. It's $20. Also you can call the "Whatever Works" folks at 1-800-499-6757 and ask for a catalog. They have several electronic, chemical and scent repelling solutions for squirrels. By the way, the gadget I mentioned from RadioSys requires 115 vac. The "Whatever Works" folks have gadgets that work off of batteries. The RadioSys Gadget I have does a good job of keeping the squirrels away for me. Hope this helps. Good luck. -- Roger A. I'm wondering what is the reason you don't want the squirrels there. Is it because they're destroying your feeders or hogging the food? I used to get miffed at them but then I figure: they just come along with bird feeding. I'd rather have the wildlife in my yard than not have them so I just leave them. I have one window feeder (too high up for squirrels to jump) that accomodate the jays and cardinals. I spread seed on the ground for the doves and throw peanuts out for the squirrels. If you accept them rather than worry how to get rid of them maybe your birdwatching will be more enjoyable? When I'm serious about "birdwatching" I usually go elsewhere anyway. I just like having all the little critters in my yard! Gloria DAN ROTH wrote: > I am going on one year as a birder. When I'm serious about "birdwatching" With the squirrels able to get at the feeder there was no birdwatching here. They would empty 2 quarts of seeds in no time. Now that I have an AbsoluteI feeder we can enjoy the birds. There is no way I could keep them off the feeder; they run up the brick wall, carrom off the door from the rain gutter, scratch their way up my wood-framed glass door.

Thank you for the information, but, unfortunately, I have a limited budget and this is going on my second winter as a birder. Is there anything I can buy that is a little less costly but would help me?? Thanks -Dan "Roger A. Moncrief" wrote: > > DAN ROTH wrote: > > > > I am going on one year as a birder. The problem I am having is that the squirrels scare away and fight some birds on the ground, take all of the food, and chew my feeders to shreds. I am wondering if they just don't like me!! That does sound like a problem. I wonder what kind of bird would fight a squirrel? I have in my yard, cardinals, bjays, m. doves, ec doves, rw blackbirds, pigeons (ugh), and sometimes cedar waxwings. I guess I"m very lucky, everyone gets along. My solution isn't exactly pretty but it certainly works. I have 8 feeders on one pole. This pole is inserted into a larger one (old swing set leg) and we put a hole in the center of an old galvanized wash tub, turned it upside down, stuck it onto the lager pole. So we have the large pole in the ground, then the wash tub, then the other pole on top. I use the wash tub for a platform feeder. The birds love it and no squirrels or racoons have been able to conquer it. Since I'm in a rural area this had been a major problem. I'm sure there's a prettier way to do it but I'm also on a limited budget and this works for me. Well, the Blue Jays always pick fights with everyone by me, and the mourning doves sometimes battle out the squirrels as well. What a pain!!!!!!:-) Old Hen wrote: > > That does sound like a problem.
