Any thoughts on how you spot young talents in bridge? How do you separate those with a talent for bridge and those who don't given that they have only played the game for a year? I was asked for advice on this when planning a bridge team for a youth tournament.

An encyclopedic knowledge of methods does not guarantee the judgment to use them wisely. Look for these personality traits: * self-confidence All good bridge players have a healthy level of confidence in their own abilities. * Ability to accept their own mistakes Players who can accept their own mistakes without feeling crushed by a "failure" learn much faster than those who feel they must defend their actions to the death. Anyone who tries to justify their mistakes is never going to amount to much.

I answered once alredy but I should mention another feature which I think talented bridge players have: to be a good, supportive partner, who brings out the best from partners. Not a solo flyer or one who is trying to control the partnership actions or one who thinks he "knows' everything.
