Had a Gammo pistol, PT90 I was going to use to shoot in the garage. What a
piece of crap. The velocity was no where near the 500fps they advertised and
accuracy was a complete joke. I returned it for refund. CO2 sux for air
guns. I have a springer rile that shoots very nicely at 1100 fps. I would go
with a springer for a handgun as well, the Russians make a nice one.

You will get a lot more information over on alt.sport.air-guns

And the PT80 (the one that looks like a Mak or a Walther PP) isn't any
better. I'd have taken it back, but it's not defective, just a bad design.
Apparently, they made it this way on purpose.

A Crossman or Benjamin/Sheridan pump is a lot more air pistol for the money,
although single-shot, and doesn't look so much like a classic firearm.

Most of these replica CO2 pistols aren't anything but a double-action
revolver with a different shroud. The accuracy is usually indifferent
and the trigger is horrible. If you can't get the real thing, they'll
do for a stand-in. At least the replica revolvers usually have a
single-action mode, the replica semi-autos don't. The shots per CO2
cartridge isn't anything to write home about, either. The most shots
I've ever got from any CO2-powered gun was with my S&W 78G, no longer
made and it's a single shot. I've gotten over 220 shots at low power
with this gun. The Gamo replica gun I've got gets around 80 shots
with lead BBs. The difference is that the S&W has a completely sealed
chamber for the CO2 cartridge and the seals are first rate. The Gamo
seals on the cartridge end and the material quality apparently isn't
first rate.

CO2 is expensive, spring-air guns are usually more powerful, more
accurate and have better triggers. Single-stroke pneumatics can have
match accuracy at reasonable prices. However, if you want repeat
shots with no fumbling for reloading and a semi-decent price, those
replica semi-autos are about it. There's some semi-custom pre-charged
pneumatic pistols that are repeaters and there's some Olympic
rapid-fire match guns, but those cost more than several good real
pistols.

Good luck with whatever you get.

Stan
