Drinks offered, I'm feeling a little chatty.

I was at a family function this weekend and was talking to my BIL about
motorcycles. He doesn't drive, but my sister does, last spring she bought
(as I've mentioned in here before) a 1974 Honda CB450Four, and enjoyed it so
much that she bought a new Honda 750 (Shadow ACE I think) in the fall. When
she first bought the CB450Four I told her that if she wasn't happy with it
that we'd buy it off her for what she paid for it.

Sister's CB450Four (fender wasn't mounted, but she has one) and brother's
1968 Triumph Tiger:

Sister's 2003 Shadow:

In any event, she's been having a blast, and the plan was that this year her
husband would take the MSF course and learn to ride on the CB450Four (my
sister grew up on dirt bikes, her husband has never been more than a
passenger) and then he would look at buying a new bike of his own. He wants
a BMW, but I think it's more for status, this guy just bought a cappuccino
machine, so do the math. Anyway, he's been talking to a friend of his who's
a doctor, and his friend has been telling him motorcycle accident horror
stories, so now he's having second thoughts about learning to ride. So what
does any good BIL do in this situation? I told him more stories of lost
limbs, close calls and left hand turners. I think I might be on my way to
getting that CB450Four, lol. The best part is, the SO loves the looks of
it, and is well aware of the agreement to buy the bike if my sister ever
decides to get rid of it. I'll be keeping my fingers crossed this season.

I think he figures he'd have a better chance at convincing my sister to get
a BMW bike rather than the car, but he'd still have a BMW to show his
neighbors.

Yep, I believe he said it was a few grand, but I could be wrong. Speaking
of getting things wrong, don't misunderstand me, he's a hell of a nice guy.

It actually runs pretty good right now, the guy she got it from was pretty
meticulous. There's minor issues, like the paint not being 100% and the
front fender having taken a dig or two, but other than that it's complete
and runs, right down to the little beeper for indicating that the turn
signal is on to the tool bag. I drove it during MineSweep last year and put
about 1200 miles on it, it's a little hard on the ass after a while, but a
fun bike. And no, I would never chop it.

Hehe, that was a drain screw for the float bowl, good memory.

Status? Tell your BIL I scoff at his notions - his perceptions of
status.

To do the math, you gotta tell me how much he paid, type, brand - so I
can compare and calculate how much was pissed away - OH, I GET IT -
STATUS...knowing the price of everything and the value of nothing.

When I saw the title - I was thinking a turn of events over the long and
brutal, north of the border winter whereby the distinct possibility
arises where you can soon remake the old TV show, "My Three Sons".

Now, as to the CB750. Please do not chop it. Tighten it up and make it
purr just like it did when it rolled off the rice paddy, uh - showroom
floor. Drop petcocks or carb screws in gravel parking lots so you have
an excuse to return on the scoot to the scene of the crime. A
significant part of MC history in that bike, defining a new era. An
entirely respectable experience in any venue - in front of any group of
yahoos - or people that appreciate a machine without stumbling over the
manufacturer origin.

Those little high revving 4 cylinder 450's and 500's make absolutely killer
cafe racers. Give you a break from the chopper, too.

I hired a new guy at work to do the grunt work, I simply wasn't getting
enough time to enjoy RMH when doing all the work myself.

Man do they ever. A guy in the neighborhood has one that he pulls out from
time to time. He snarls by the house in second gear at about 5500 rpm and
brings a smile every time.

Evil? Au Contraire. If I were evil I'd simply ask to borrow it, she

I do indeed, although that was before she had the new bike so I couldn't
really keep it that time.

Yeah, sadly I felt guilty and washed when I got back to her place. That was
a fun little bike, but I really could have used a front fender for that leg
of the trip.
