Rode to work today. It's nice that there is no snow on the roads. Temperature in the morning: 49F. My usual limit for face protection is 50F, but I wanted the breeze, so left off the face mask. I also left off the earplugs, by accident, and so had an earache from the wind by the time I arrived to work. But no matter, the rest of the day was glorious... There are still patches of snow on the north sides of fences and tree rows (schizophrenic spring), but the high was over 70F and I kept thinking on my ride home that the temperature was perfect. I could have ridden that way for hours and hours. Most of the trees are still budding out, not many leaves yet, but the lilacs are blooming. All I could smell on the way home was lilacs. I'm not complaining. Due to an unfortunate nasty scrapy sound, subsequently determined to be exploded cam bearings, I have a new cam, new adjustable pushrods, new otherstuff. It's a bit disconcerting when I look down and realize I'm going 20mph faster than I thought I was. Vibrations are completely different now. Still not happy with the whole yank-throttle-sluggish-response thing, though.... the new cam is a "bolt-in," Woods W-6, but it just feels like I need to do something else to improve ... something... breathing? exhaust? lube on the cables??? something... Nitrous! Riding to work makes the day so much nicer. But what's wrong with sluggish? <g> -- '02/'03 FXSTDI - Hal "Redux" BS#229 MA
