Round Air Filter Cover on Twin Cam

Belly up folks....drinks on me!

Wondering how I can make the round air filter cover from my 98 Fat Boy
fit on my 02 Twin Cam with a Mikuni carb?

Heard somewhere about a gasket that will fit over the K & N SE filter
on the TC to enable the round cover to fit...supposed to be available
at Harley. I went to my local dealership in New Port Richey, Florida,
asked about this at the parts counter and was told that what I was
attempting was impossible.

So much for those idiots!

TIA & ride safe.

Doesn't the K&N filter have a plate on the top that the cover bolts to? And
then this plate in turn is attached to the backing plate? SO if you have the
K & N installed then you have everything needed ...?
My K & N has this metal plate , and the bolts go thru the plate down to the
backing plate holding filter in place. Then the round cover just bolts to
the filter plate.... no gaskets seem to be needed.

But then again I have been wrong once or twice before.

And you are this time. If you just bolt it on, the center of the filter will
break out over time from the vibration causing a stress fracture. A strip
of self stick 1/4X1/4 or 3/8X3/8 weather-strip foam stuck around the
rubber edge flange of the filter, will solve the problem. We saw this
more than once at the shop.

I used the uhfishal H-D rubber spacer doo-dad. The center of the filter
cracked anyway. Put the Sinister Blue football back on. Looks better than
chrome anyway.......

I've got over 45,000 miles on mine, sans gasket or self stick weather
strip, or anything other than what's pictured. No stress fractures,
no problems, no oil leakin' outta th' air cleaner, no spun stand-off
bolts, no flimsy assed backing plate, none of that shit. Hell of a
lot higher air flow too.

Screamin' Chicken, stock H-D, it's all th' same to me... junk. Yer

A local boy, neighbor of mine damn near, name of Dave Skagen. He came
up with th' design, has th' castings farmed out, and does th' machine
work hisself. Arlen Ness ripped off part of th' design and came out
with th' Big Sucker. There ain't anything out there better than

"Preclude:

To exclude or prevent (someone) from a given condition or activity"

Yer right. All I'm sayin' is there's another choice out there for
round backing plates other than th' Screamin' Chicken or ness's Big
Sucker garbage.

Th' fact that I have th' last few of these in existence, and might
even sell a couple, isn't th' point. There are design flaws in all of
'em out there, mine is just flat fuckin' better than anything else,

Unfortunately not. Them fuckin' elements is pricey too. The only
consolation is you can now put in the deeper Buell element with
the weather-strip.

The weather strip seems to work just fine. 20,000 miles on the bagger.
Mayhaps I should start selling 18" long strips of weather-strip on e-bay
for $19.99 and 9.99 S&H <sfsf>

Here's a pair of Coors for you and an SNPA for me. My advice was
directed at those who want to run the Screamin' Chicken backplate
and element with a round cover rather than the football.

Looks like nice work. Figger a bigwig like Ness to rob the little guy. I
