Ok guys, the hell with the beer how about some wild turkey!!!!!!! Here is my
question ,I have a new roadking ,and I would like to pull the handle bars in
a little closer,so instead of them being 33inchs wide they would be about
31. Do you think this could be done without damaging the bars, and is there
any ideas on how to do this????????

                                            everybody have a good
weekend!!!!!!!!!! yo Bill

Nope, but you can cut as much off the ends of the bars as you dare.

Probbably better to just replace them with bars of your liking. You can
then mount the old ones above the bed for extra leverage...

You will need access to a tubing bender and a damn good eye to do this. Plus
I'm assuming the bars are stainless and not plated. Plated bars stand an
excellent chance of the chrome cracking and flaking off. Bars are not all
the expensive so you just might want to check with Flanders and see if they
have what you want/need.

Which then puts the dimples about one inch from where they need to be to
route the cables out of the switch housings.

True, but if your dicking with 'em anyway, why not drill three holes and
run the wires inside the bars? Don't take much time, and looks nicer, I
think.

Harley has a bar in their catalog (55954-00 page 411 of their '03 P&A catalog)
that is narrower and higher. It's cheap too at $39.95 the last time I checked
(when I bought mine actually). They are only 1-1/2" narrower than stock
according to the book but they have me looking at my elbows. Damn sight more
comfortable than the stockers.

Cut a section out of the bars beneath the clamp, slide the now two piece bars
in until you get the width you want. You may want to create some knurling if
you aren't comfortable with clamping on the smooth portion of the bars. Using
a centerpunch and dimpling the bars has worked well for me. I turned a slug to
fit inside the bars to prevent flattening them while I was creating the
"knurling".
