Thinking about it. Worth it? Is it really a 50% discount, or are there undisclosed "gotchas"?

I'm headed back to Orange County (CA) this week, and there's a member campground very near to where
I need to be. I was going to register on their web site (or by phone) so I'd have a member number to
use.

Thanks,
Bill

Bill,

Definitely worth it! I've had it for 4 years and have been very happy.

Well worth it, I got it for 3 years and paid it almost off with my first
stay.
Getting ready to use it again and it will save me roughly $91 for my 7
day stay! Works for me! No other problems found other than saving
money of course!

It is well worth the price but everything nowadays comes with an asterisk.
Some of the parks will not let you use the discount on weekends and holidays in
high-use periods. Some black out entire high use periods. There are a couple
of "gotchas" but the membership pays for itself fairly quickly.

Janet, from Twin Palms, Rio Hondo, TX ( a PA park that is now full).

Thanks for the feedback, everybody. I just signed up via Camping World's
"Presidents Club" ($89.00 for 3 years) and made a reservation at a park in
Orange County for the next couple of weeks. Apparently, I'll make back my
membership fee within the first 5 days (Normal=$40, PA=$20). If the park's
are not "dumps", it appears to be well worth the membership fee.

It's the best bargain in membership camping, IMHO..

There are always "gotchas" out there, but the nice thing I found about
PA was that if you read the CG info ***for the CG you have chosen***,
the gotchas are spelled out (Actually, I define a gotcha as a total
surprise, so these really aren't gotchas, just conditions).

I haven't used PA in several years, primarily because I was hanging
out on the western side of the continent where the NP and NF CGs
(which I usually prefer to RV parks and CGs) are more common and for
which I already have a 50%-off GA card. I found it useful in the
East, and have found interesting CGs that I might otherwise not have
found. One of those only charges $7 for a dry space, so the $3.50
savings doesn't pay off the membership cost very quickly <grinz>.

PA is NOT for those who want extreme structure and order in a camping
plan -- Each and every individual park is allowed to set its own
conditions and restrictions as long as they are in writing up front,
as I understand it. The only binding commonality is the 50% discount
on the base rate. Exactly when that rate applies (like all the time
if space is available vs the third tuesday after a full moon) and
whether it applies to other amenities is up to the CG.

How do you like Black Star Canyon? We're moving up there this
weekend, but my wife is apprehensive about snakes, mountain lions, and
such, and the brochure they sent warns about keeping an eye out for
clandestine methamphetamine labs in the neighborhood.

Looking forward to the adventure, I think.
