Re-plumbing advice wanted

Hello all,
10-year old 3/8" polybutylene tubing fracturing all over the place - every
joint is brittle, kind of like the owner's. Ready to bite the bullet and
replumb the whole mess with 1/2" PEX. Anyone know of a reasonable (i.e.
cheap) online source for tubing, fittings, crimp bands, etc? If this goes
like any other home plumbing project, I know my wife will running to the
local Home Depot 4 times a day for the unexpected stuff (Me: "Honey, can you
get me a 1" brass ballcock?" She: "I love when you talk dirty") If I can at
least buy the bulk of what I know I'll need ahead of time for less I'd be
happy. Also, any rv plumbing horror stories to get me in the mood?
Thanks,
Gil

I don't have any experience with online sellers, but
http://www.pexconnection.com/ "looks" good. Because you are doing an
entire replumb, so can justify the cost, I would get the Oetiker crimp
tool and bands- it is much smaller than the standard crimp ring tool, so
can get in to tighter places, and one tool will do every sized crimp,
because of the crimp method. The downside to this tool is that the crimp
bands are not very common.

When plumbing, I err on the side of picking up 2x the number of
fittings I think I'll need. I return the extras when I'm done.

Sorry I don't have other advice, but I'll hijack this thread for an
RV plumbing comment/question.

I'm new to this. Last fall I winterized my new trailer for the
first time. I put a T-fitting in just before the pump. I used this
point to introduce the antifreeze. The problem is that a large
portion of it flowed back into the water tank. Last week I
installed a ball valve between the tank and T-fitting. This
allows me to control the incoming antifreeze into only the
plumbing. How have others dealt with this?

Most people install the inexpensive kit that uses a 3-way valve to do
what you've accomplished with a tee and a ball valve.

Hi,
You can't just use a plain tee fitting. You need to get one with a
built in 3 way valve so when your putting in the anti freeze you are
pulling through the top of the tee and the line to the tank is shut
off. When your done putting in the anti freeze you turn the valve so
the line to the tank is connected to the pump again and the top of the
tee is shut off.

You should also install a bypass for the water heater if you have
one.

Hope this helps. Take care and Happy Campin...
