Painting wall before replastering/rendering

We have a problem with rising damp in MIL's bungalow. We have removed
quite a lot of plaster, and the aim is to deal with the source of the
damp, and then plaster or render the wall.

This will take some time, and in the meantime we want to do some
temporary decoration to make the room more pleasant.

What I'd like to know is whether it's okay to paint the exposed
brickwork, or whether this will cause problems with the
plastering/rendering when we come to do it later?

Any particular paint we should use?

My very limited experience in this department would suggest that
painting the bare brick with SBR, let it dry, then emulsion will be fine.

To render over the emulsion, paint with SBR, let it dry (although
apparently it can be plastered whilst wet, I cannot comment as I just
let it dry first (a position taken due to "I can't be arsed to carry on
today" rather than anything else)), then render (in my case I used cement).
