With a new doubt about the Energica, this week I've been using the 10R and, latterly, the Guzzi to commute to work. The 10R is a bit of a beast on public roads: very focused. It handles the bumpy back roads OK: the suspension copes remarkably well but it is by no means comfortable. The Hyperpro damper keeps the steering very secure without a flap. Unfortunately, the throttle pick-up off idle is scarily abrupt at certain engine speeds and slightly uneven thereafter, making powering out of slow corners a case for caution. The Guzzi, on the other hand, is a sort of armchair for the anatomically challenged. Ever seen that Shobba cartoon of "Bob, who designs our one-piece oversuits"? That's the anatomy you need. The wiiide handlebar'd steering reacts to changes in camber and pulls into corners. The ground clearance isn't great. You get used to it, but it takes a day or two. But here's the thing: at 65K miles, the suspension still soaks up bumps without wallowing or bouncing. I found that I could take bumpy back roads, with patches on top of patches, a shade off the 10R's pace (to be fair, I don't hit 3 figure speeds or get anywhere near the edges of the tyres on either bike on these roads) but without my knuckles going white. It would be useless on track, but it's fun in its way. If only it were 50kg lighter. -- CHUMP #1 (CHarge Up Muppet) Pip

At somewhere north of 80k miles, it's still very comfy, doesn't wallow in corners, and does everything I need and more. But with emphasis on the 'more', I wish it were also 50kg lighter. I did put on a Dave Quinn (?) shock, which smoothed things out considerably.

Stable, especially when filtering. Road presence. Enough grunt for the purpose. Handling, Ok for a 20th century piece. I do kind of miss the thundercat for commuting because it was so chuckable and moderate power so it didn't tend to do burnouts like the gsxr, but I do love commuting on the gsxr just 'cause it's so stupid.
