I bought an engine stand thingy so I could rotate it, and borrowed a lift. Despite a slightly dodgy looking chain arrangement, separating the engine from the bell housing was quite easy. Fixing the engine stand less so, and I only managed to get three out of four bolts in place to support the engine at the clutch end. It went on the stand, but, it weighs slightly more than the sun, so I used the lift as well to support it as I spit roast it over to get to the sump. Fast forward, sump off, all 4 pistons and liners removed (easier than I thought it would be to bash 'em out from below). Two pistons are currently still stuck in their liners. I turned the crank over by hand and found a tight spot. This turned out to be some of the cam followers stuck in their guides. I did have a slight disaster at this point, whilst trying to rotate the engine again, its stand tipped over and there I was left with a 30 billion ton engine held up by just one 8mm bolt and a tiny chain. Luckiliy a friend came to my rescuse the next day and we "safely" lowered it onto a pallet. I've been heating and spraying the cam followers for a few days now and have got them all to move. Next up I'll remove the cam just to check it, but it looks ok so far. All the crank journals/bearings etc. look great, which is a pleasant surprise as the engine has stood for an unknown number of years with quite a lot of water in it. Still a long way to go. -- /Simon
