Both the book of Daniel and the book of Revelation make use of a period of 1260 days (usually understood to stand for the same number of years). In Daniel time period is specified as "time, times and half a time", which may seem indefinite, but because "times" is the dual form in Hebrew, it refers to exactly two years, so making a total 3.5 years and as in theory the Jewish year had 360 days, that comes to 1260 days. In Revelation the "time, times and half a time" formula is repeated, but as Greek does not have the dual form it make no sense except as a reference back to Daniel 7. However the period is also referred to as "forty-two months" and even explicitly as 1,260 days. The question is how this period should be interpreted. Protestants have usually applied it to the Catholic church, however I have recently come across a clever - though in my opinion, incorrect - interpretation. The Muslim calendar begins in AD 622, the year Mohammad fled from Mecca to Medina. If you add 1260 to 622 you get 1882, which no one finds at all significant. However the Muslim year is a strictly lunar one and is usually about eleven days shorter than the solar year on which our calendar is based. So if you do a revised sum, you end up with this: 622+(1260*354)/365 In other words, you multiply 1260 by the number of days in an Islamic year, then divide by the number of days in a solar year. The answer comes out to 1844 (plus a few decimal points). Another prophecy in Daniel talks of a period of 2,300 days (aka years) and a reasonable interpretation has them beginning in 457 BC, which would also take you to 1844. The Bahais - who of course are sympathetic to the Muslim calendar - feel this is very significant. Personally I think it is playing a bit fast and loose with the numbers. God bless, Kendall K.
