Just another crummy day in paradise...

It was about 70F when I left work at 6pm. The lilacs are blooming
everywhere, and filling the air with their heady scent. I made my
way out of the city, ramped it up to 75mph on the freeway (ah, that's
fun), then back down to 40 for the putt through back roads. Saw
lots of cow mamas with cow babies grazing in the green fields.

I didn't want to head straight home, so turned right on a favorite
curvy road. It's not twisty, really, but has a few good "slow to
30" curves on it, and one decreasing-radius curve, so is good for
curve practice: choosing an entry speed, accelerating through the
curve. The decreasing-radius curve had gravel in it, which made
me squeak a bit.

The next intersection had me pause. Left, to home? Or right to
more curves? Right! I went on up to the highway, and turned
left onto it. I had a bit of a pucker moment or three, when
I realized that there were tar snakes all over the road, and my
front tire jiggled and wiggled all over the place as I leaned
into the hard left turn onto the highway. Got the bike straightened
up and breathed a sigh of relief that I'd not gone down.

>From there, it's two lanes uphill through some righteous sweepers - as
long as there aren't pokey cars in the way. There weren't, and I
enjoyed the curves, powering up the hill. I turned left onto another
highway (looks like there's going to be some new stoplights there -
good! it's a scary intersection without them), and settled into
pure enjoyment.

The road curves up to the top of a ridge, and follows the ridgeline,
with some wonderful 65mph sweepers. Uh.... at least, that's what
some motorcyclist would probably do if there were no State Patrol
troopers around... I think...

The hillsides are still tan with winter, the mountains in the
background covered with snow, but the temperature said Spring. The
road curves down into a valley, then back up onto the next ridge,
and I just couldn't stop grinning from sheer joy.

The speed limit drops a bit there, and the traffic picks up, so
I proceeded more sedately into town, traffic and construction zones.
At a critical intersection, I looked forward toward home, and right
toward wandering. Which do you think I chose? Right!

That direction took me through some new pieces of road that I'd not
been on yet. The new toll road opened in December, and I've been pretty
much avoiding it. It's for people who want to get somewhere fast. I
wanted to get nowhere slowly. The road I was on paralleled the toll
road and went under it once.

I thought about continuing, then glanced at the sun... it was pretty
low in the sky, and warm air during the day in no way guarantees warm
air at night in Colorado. So I turned onto another road that, though
it still didn't head back home, didn't take me much farther from it.
I crossed the toll road yet again (it wanders), and then finally,
reluctantly, turned back toward home.

My bike didn't stop there, though, because I saw a neighbor getting
out of her car on the next block, and I rode over to chat with her a
bit. Then, finally, I turned around and pulled into the driveway,
an hour and a half after leaving for a twenty-minute drive home from
work.

Amazing how riding a motorcycle can increase your commute time so
drastically.

Thanks for the ride-along, this round's on me.

Great ride report Amanda, I hated to snip it but I took me a ride yesterday
myself.
Wasn't the weather just great for a putt.
Now, my turn.
I reach over for a stogie and the box was empty {OH No, what to do? No
cigars and you know how I like my cigars}.
The only place that stock my brand {Marsh Wheeling} is clear across town so
told the little lady "I am out of here.".
I grabbed my sunglasses and a long sleeve shirt and out to the carport I go'
Oh No, I forgot about all the anti-thief devices I put on my Harley when I
leave it in the carport. OK, back in the store for the keys to the locks. I
had a cable on the back tire hooked to a post. I had a chain on the front
tire hooked to another. I had a lock on the front forks. I had a chain from
the back wheel to the frame.
Here I am going through stogie withdrawals and I was dumb founded by all the
locks and locks I put on the bike this winter.
After freeing her from her bondage, I checked out her precious bodily fluids
and she was fine. It has been weeks and weeks since her and I have taken a
ride together.
I opened the petcock and for the life of me, couldn't figure out which way
was the reserve. that was OK because a check of the gas tank showed that
there was plenty of gas for this ride. Twisted the gas 2 times, pulled out
the choke, push the starter button ands opened the throttle to 3/4. After a
couple of roll overs, she started to slowly what to come to life, She would
run for a couple of seconds then go back to sleep. After a couple of tries,
she roared to life with a "Let me run free " thunder. She told me "Let's go
right now." and I said "We are not waiting for me." and off we went.
For a old gal, she can still turn some heads. For those who have not met
her, here she is http://www.whereiis.com/g.jpg
We went though the downtown area of the Colorado Springs with the usual
looks, smiles. The sun was warm, the sky was clear, the traffic was light.
What a wonderful day for a stogie ride.
I got to the cigar shop and got me a box of Marsh Wheeling Original and
Genuine Deluxe Stogies, oh yes, the last manufactures of the American
classic stogies.
I picked up a mid range Punch and had a smoke with the guys in the lobby.
One had a big twin so the talk turned to Harleys and other bikes. We got
into the classic pro and cons of big twin and little twin. No punches were
thrown so it was a great time had by all. (Big Grin).

As I tooled back to the store, I stopped by a Micky D for some dollar menu
items to take back for the wife. Another guy walked up wanting to know more
about my bike. Damn old girl, I can't take her anywhere without her flirting
with other guys. I can tell they would like to ride her but she is loyal
only to me.
We got back to the house and back into the carport she went. There was a
little tear in her eye as I locked her up and went inside. This morning, as
I walked pass her, she leaned over and marked me with a touch of oil and gas
so that I will think of her all day. It worked because I am thinking about
turning her loose to room the neighborhood. I better go along to make sure
she doesn't get in any trouble.

Don T.- Later, I am out of here.

A 77 is right, give that man a cigar!
That picture is old.
She has passing lights, winter shield and crash bars on front and on the
saddlebags. I need to update the pic.

I am sweet on her. See no need to sell her and get another.
I picked up a 78 last year and going to chop it. I plan to do an Evil Twin
thing. Same paint scheme but old school chopper.
When I park them side by side, I want to get the "OK, you don't see that
everyday." reaction.

Shit man, that is the good part of the sidewalk. You ought to see the rest
of it.
The building is the old medical building for this side of town and built
around 1895 by a bunch of drunk carpenters. It feels like home. I can at
least work on it and have my work blend in perfectly. I am doing the kitchen
now but ran out of Heaven Hill.

Same here, I still have the old gas lights, then they upgraded to the bare
wire on glass knobs, in the 50's somebody put in 2 wire. For the last 14
years, I been slowly switching to 3 wire and grounded outlets. Don't even
get me to talk about the old black pipe plumbing I have to deal with. Worse
than a old harley I tell you.
I have staircases that go right into the ceiling and trapdoors on the
floors. I even have a old built in ice box, yeah, A room for storing ice and
dead bodies. I am using it for a public library now. I can't find any dead
bodies for the life of me to store in it, so why not books?

I used to live there as well, right across from the 7-11.

Hee hee! I just flashed on a memory of my first house in Riverton Hts.WA
(Now City of Seatac).

Built by the three stooges.
Plumbing by Laurel and Hardy.
Wired by the Marx brothers.

I spent my whole time there keeping it from falling down.
